Live-Ops Turnaround

A cosmetics-driven mobile app moved from one update every six months to a biweekly live-ops cadence of new cosmetics and seasonal drops, and from under 10 fps to 60 on mid-range phones.

The story · five parts

01Constraint

A live app shipping about every six months. On iOS it ran under 10 fps; on Android it was not playable, at 3 to 5 fps on a mid-range phone (Fig. 02.1) and not running at all on low-end devices.

02Intervention

I led the team through it. Together we set up CI/CD and build automation, moved to disciplined biweekly sprints, ran targeted performance passes to port the app to low and mid-range Android, and used analytics dashboards to see what users actually did.

03Measured

Frame rate on fixed test devices, release cadence and escaped defects.

Fig. 02.1 · Silent loop, 6 s · same Samsung Galaxy A54, same screen, live frame-rate counter (Curr Avg). Before: an earlier public store release, 3 to 5 fps. After: the current public release, 60 fps.

04Result

The app ported to low and mid-range Android, 50+ biweekly deliveries between December 2023 and January 2026, from under 10 fps to a stable 60 on mid-range Android, and 80%+ fewer escaped defects.

05What it proves

I fix the delivery system before chasing features.

The cadence in 9 seconds

What players saw every two weeks, and what made it playable on Android.

  1. 1/2New cosmetics. Props and recolors, shipped with new animations and backgrounds in biweekly drops.
  2. 2/2Frame rate. The same screen on the same mid-range phone, before and after the performance passes.
